“Not a typical new years resolution”–Amy Byrd

Amy Byrd shares her Intense 22 Fitness story*:

I rolled over and looked at the clock. It’s another day. Beyond all reason and rationality, I slid out of bed and stripped off everything that might weigh even the slightest ounce as I headed to the scale. I yanked out my ponytail holder – hey, it’s gotta weigh something!  Ugh.

I would decide from this day forward I’m going to the gym every day after work, I’m going to eat healthier, maybe I’ll pick up running. . .shoes.  I managed to follow through on my promises to myself starting with my new running shoes.  However, a few weeks in to my routine life always seemed to get in the way—When my husband wants to have the family go to Cracker Barrel for dinner, I immediately decide tomorrow would be a much better day to keep my promises as the biscuit plate speaks such love and deliciousness.  But tomorrow wasn’t the day. Or the next. Or the next.

One day, I walked in to Intense 22.  Skeptical those 22 minutes twice a week could make a difference?  It finally happened.  I woke up one morning after just a few visits feeling empowered.  I still do the same crazy routine with the scale, no clothes, no ponytail holder. The numbers are changing and so had my heart and spirit.  I can keep this up.  I don’t feel like I’m neglecting my family by spending a lot of time at a gym.  Instead, I know I’m actually getting stronger for them and me (as confirmed my 9 year old son who noticed mom’s arm muscles?)  One of my favorite attributes of Intense 22 is that they care about each individual—getting to know you and your limits and finding a way to push them a little further each visit.  I leave each time feeling a sense of victory. . .and one day of victory puts all my days of failure that much further behind me.

I can’t promise you it won’t be hard work. It will. And I can’t promise the scale magically drops as quickly as you wish it would. It probably won’t. But it will be a start. A really good start.  And not like a typical New Year’s Resolution that ends with you and a plate of biscuits by the end of January?    ~Amy Byrd
